207 Killed on Lake Victoria, Tanzania
At least 207 passengers were killed when the ferry they were on capsized. An engineer has recently been rescued from an air pocket inside the ship. It is thought that the ship was carrying more than twice the recommended passengers and that it capsized when they moved to one side. Please pray for the families of the deceased. Please pray for the safety of rescue workers. Please pray for healing.
Chinese Hospital Ship Docks in Venezuela
An economic crisis in Venezuela had led to a shortage of food, medicine, and public services. China has sent the hospital ship as a gesture of friendship between the two nations after Venezuela promised to increase oil exports. The ship will provide free healthcare for local patients for the next week. Please pray for the nation and citizens of Venezuela who are suffering. Please pray that they are able to receive the medicine they need.
Mud Volcano Erupts in Azerbaijan
The second largest mud volcano in the world has erupted near Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The eruptions are expected to continue for some time and it is not yet clear if local residents are in any danger. Please pray for the safety of the residents.
12 Kidnapped in Nigerian Waters
A pirate gang has kidnapped 12, out of 19, crew members from a Swiss cargo vessel that was in Nigerian waters. The cargo vessel was carrying wheat. The crew members are from the Philippines, Slovenia, Ukraine, Romania, Croatia, and Bosnia. Please pray for the safe return.
18 Killed in Beni, DR Congo
At least 18 individuals have died, including 14 civilians, after a rebel attack, allegedly a Ugandan Islamist militant group. The attack has also interfered with the efforts to treat and trace individuals who have been in contact, or suspect of contact, with Ebola. At least 33 individuals have already been killed by Ebola this year. Please pray for the families of the deceased. Please pray for peace. Please pray for healing.
Severe Flooding Expected in Several Areas of the United States
While the southern east coast continues to work at recovering from the flooding from Hurricane Florence, several areas in the mid-west and north east are also preparing for flooding from heavy rains. In addition to rain, some areas will also experience damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes. Please pray for the safety of all.

The Supreme Court of the United States has rejected a request to stay the execution of Mark Anthony Christeson.  Missouri Governor Eric Greitens has also refused to grant clemency.

Mark Anthony Christeson is scheduled to be executed at 6:00 pm CST, on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic, and Corrections Center in Bonne Terre, Missouri.  Thirty-seven-year-old Mark is convicted of the murder of Susan Brouk and her children, 12-year-old Adrian and 9-year-old Kyle, on January 31, 1998, near Vicky, Missouri.  Mark has spent the last 16 years on Missouri’s death row.


Mark had a difficult childhood.  He was abused and had several traumatic experiences.


Mark Christeson and his cousin, Jesse Carter, planned to run away from the relative’s home at which they were staying.  On February 1, 1998, the two each took a shotgun and went to the nearby home of Susan Brouk, who was home with her two children, Adrian and Kyle.  Carter tied up the children while Christeson took Susan into a bedroom and raped her.


Christeson returned Susan to the room with the children, one of whom recognized Carter.  Since they were recognized, Christeson decided they had to “get rid of ‘em.”  Susan, Adrian, and Kyle were forced, at gunpoint, into the back of Susan’s Bronco.  Christeson and Carter also loaded a television, VCR, stereo, video game player, and other small items into the vehicle.  Christeson drove the group to a nearby pond, where everybody exited the vehicle.   


Christeson kicked Susan hard in the ribs, causing her to fall.  He then slit her throat twice with a bone knife.  Susan did not die immediately.  Christeson then slit Kyle’s throat and held him under water until he died.  Adrian attempted to free herself, but was unsuccessful.  Carter held her feet while Christeson suffocated her with his hands.  Kyle and Adrian were pushed into the pond.  Susan, still alive, was thrown in on top of them.  Christeson used a stick to push them further out into the water. 


Christeson and Carter returned to the Bronco and drove it to their relative’s home, where they loaded it with their belongings.  They then headed west, selling their stolen merchandise for food and gas.  They were arrested on February 9, 1998, in Blythe, California. 


Jesse Carter testified against Mark Christeson.  Jesse received three life sentences.  Mark received the death sentence.


Mark was previously scheduled to be executed on October 29, 2014, however his execution was stayed by the Supreme Court of the United States due to his attorneys failing to meet deadlines for appeals and for failing to even meet with their client prior to the deadlines.  US District Judge Dean Whipple recently ruled, however, that Mark's attorneys failing to meet a filing deadline did not constitute abandonment.  Judge Whipple ruled that the attorneys worked diligently on Mark's behalf but miscalculated the date, which, according to Judge Whipple, does not constitute abandonment.  Mark is appealing to the Supreme Court of the United States.


Please pray for peace and healing for the family of Susan, Adrian, and Kyle.  Please pray for strength for the family of Mark.  Please pray that if Mark is innocent, lacks the competency to be executed or should not be executed for any other reason, that evidence will be presented prior to his execution.  Please pray that Mark may come to find peace through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, if he has not already.
