Advent 2017 - Day 18

Prophecy: After oppression and judgment He was taken away; And as for His generation [His contemporaries], who [among them] concerned himself with the fact that He was cut off from the land of the living [by His death] for the transgression of my people, to whom the stroke [of death] was due?  (Isaiah 53:8, AMP)

Fulfillment: Those who had seized Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the scribes and the elders (Sanhedrin, Jewish High Court) had gathered [illegally] together.  (Matthew 26:57, AMP)

So Pilate came out to them and asked, “What accusation do you bring against this Man?” They answered, “If He were not a criminal, we would not have handed Him over to you [for judgment].” Then Pilate said to them, “Take Him yourselves and judge Him according to your own law.” The Jews said, “We are not permitted to put anyone to death.” This was to fulfill the word which Jesus had spoken to indicate by what manner of death He was going to die.  (John 18:29-32, AMP)

And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit!”Having said this, He breathed His last.  (Luke 23:46, AMP)

And He [that same Jesus] is the propitiation for our sins [the atoning sacrifice that holds back the wrath of God that would otherwise be directed at us because of our sinful nature—our worldliness, our lifestyle]; and not for ours alone, but also for [the sins of all believers throughout] the whole world.  (1 John 2:2, AMP)
