Advent

Advent Devotional Day 1

Prophecy:  Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14, ESV)

Fulfillment: (18)Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.  (24)When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, (25)but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.  (Matthew 1:18, 24-25, ESV)

Advent is a time of waiting. Our whole life, however, is

Advent--that is, a time of waiting for the ultimate,

for the time when there will be a new heaven and a new earth,

when all people are brothers and sisters and one rejoices in the words of the angels:

"On earth peace to those on whom God's favor rests."

Learn to wait, because he has promised to come.

"I stand at the door..."

We however call to him: "Yes, come soon,

Lord Jesus!"
