Ramiro Hernandez, a/k/a Ramiro Hernandez-Llanas was executed by the state of Texas on April 9, 2014. Ramiro was pronounced dead at 6:28 pm CST, inside the execution chamber of the Walls Unit of the Huntsville State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. Ramiro was 44 years of age. He was executed for the murder of 49-year-old former Schreiner College and Baylor University history professor Glen H. Lich on October 14, 1997, in Bandera County, Texas. Ramiro also repeatedly raped Glen’s wife, Lera Lich, robbed the house, and threatened Lera and her mother.
Ramiro was born in Neuvo Laredo, Mexico, where he was also convicted of murder. Ramiro received only a 4th grade education and was raised in poverty. He was abused, neglected, and exposed to toxins as a child and failed to grasp basic concepts. While in prison in Mexico, Ramiro escaped and fled to the United States. Ramiro had also stabbed a man in a bar and sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl. While in prison awaiting trial for the murder of Glen, Ramiro stabbed and killed a female jailer. Prior to his arrest, Ramiro worked as a laborer for Glen and Lera.
