Did You Know?

Twenty-three men and no women have

been executed in the United States in 2017.

Suzanne Margaret Basso was executed by the state of Texas on February 5, 2014.  Suzanne was pronounced dead at 6:26 pm CST, inside the execution chamber at the Walls Unit of the Huntsville State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas.  Suzanne was 59 years of age.  She was executed for the kidnapping and brutal torture of 59-year-old Louis “Buddy” Musso, who was mentally retarded, but lived independently.  The  five days of torture resulted in Buddy’s death.  Suzanne’s previous husband died of extreme malnourishment and regurgitation of stomach acid, although Basso was never charged in his death.

Suzanne was raised in poverty by an abusive and alcoholic father.  She was sexually molested by several male relatives during her childhood, as well as physically abused by male and female family members.  Suzanne graduated from high school, although she performed poorly in school.  Prior to her arrest, Suzanne worked a variety of jobs including office clerk, seamstress, and laborer.  Suzanne’s children testified that she verbally, physically, and sexually abused and that Suzanne encouraged her husband to abuse the children.

Please pray for peace and healing for the family of Buddy Musso.  Please pray for the family of Suzanne Basso.
