Commentary: What is the significance of Moses and Elijah at Jesus’ transfiguration? They represent the coming together of the Law (Moses) and the Prophets (Elijah). The disciples struggled to comprehend a dying, suffering Messiah, because they believed, like most Jews, that the Messiah would come as a victorious Earthly conquer. They were focused of physical salvation, not spiritual. Although Mark may not have written the occurring events in chronological order, many of Jesus teachings are familiar. The Pharisees attempted to decrease Jesus’ appeal by asking Him about divorce, a topic which was responsible for the death of John the Baptist. Divorce was never part of God’s plan, but was permitted to curb behavior that was already present. Service is at the heart of Jesus’ ministry and should be at the heart of our ministry today.
Focus Verse: 10:1-12 What does Jesus say about divorce? What can be learned from this passage?
