Commentary: What the Lord had revealed to David was coming to pass: Solomon was building the temple of the Lord. It was twice the size of the Tabernacle built by the Israelites in the desert. Solomon received wood for the temple from the King of Tyre, due to the respect the king had for Solomon’s father. The temple was not the only building project Solomon had. He also built his own a palace, a second home, and a palace for the daughter of the Egyptian pharaoh, his wife. Once the temple was built, the Ark of the Covenant was placed inside the Holy of Holies. After the dedication of the temple, the Lord appeared to Solomon, asking him to serve as his father had, with his heart.
Focus Verses: 7:1-12 This passage can seem out place as the passages before and after deal with the construction of the Temple. Why is this passage placed here? What does it show? What does it reveal about Solomon? What does it teach you about yourself?
