Context: Psalm 51 was written by David after Nathan confronted him about his sin with Bathsheba.Following his adultery, David arranged to have Bathsheba's husband killed so that he could have Bathsheba. In other nations, David's act would have been considered acceptable and, likely, common.Yet as God's servant, such acts broke two of the Lord's commandments.Psalm 51 is broken into three sections: Cry of Conscience and Conviction of Sin (1-3), Cry of Confession of Sin and Clemency (Compassion) of God (4-8), and Cry for Cleansing and Communion (9-19).Psalm 52 was written by David, after Doeg the Edomite informed Saul that David had gone to Ahimelech.David had been betrayed. It warns us of the antichrist.Psalm 53 should be familiar. It is practically identical to Psalm 14 and is a warning about those who deny God.It also holds hope for the nation of Israel.
