Context: Luke uses historical details to set the stage for Jesus beginning His ministry.John the Baptist was the first prophet to appear since Malachi - over 400 years ago.John preached baptism for all, which was new concept.John saw that people wanted to be baptized, not out of repentance, but to improve their religious resumes.He also preached that religious rituals were not enough.John drew sizable crowds, who came to hear his true teachings.John was put in prison after speaking out against Herod's marriage to his brother's wife.Luke records the genealogy of Jesus.Before beginning His ministry, Jesus spent 40 days being tempted in the desert.Jesus' ministry begins in His hometown where He is rejected.He is known as the son of a carpenter.They demanded that He prove He is the Son of God before they will believe.Outside of His hometown, Jesus performed many miracles, with people clamoring to see Him.

World History:When John said he was unworthy of untying the sandals of the one who was going to come after him.Untying the sandals was a job for the lowliest servant in the house.The demon thought that by naming Jesus, he would have control over Jesus.Jesus has power over all.
