Context: Today’s reading looks at Jehoram, Ahaziah, and Joash, all kings of Judah.  Jehoram and Ahaziah were both wicked kings who did not walk with the Lord.  Jehoram pushed the people back into the idolatry his father had taken them out of.  Both Jehoram and Ahaziah associated with the house of Ahab.  Following the death of Ahaziah, Joash is hidden by his mother and later becomes king.  He begins his reign by restoring the temple and walking with the Lord, however, after the death of the priest who helped raise him, Joash did not maintain his close relationship with the Lord.  In fact, Joash ordered the death of the man who came to warn him against those who were leading the people back into idolatry.  The man was the son of the priest who raised him!  God punished Joash for his actions.
