Context: Today’s reading covers the reign of Amaziah, Uzziah, Jotham, and Ahaz, all kings of Judah. Amaziah did not fully follow the Law as recorded by Moses and eventually worshipped false gods. He did not listen to his prophets and attacked Israel. Uzziah was a good king who sought the advice of the prophet Zechariah. Uzziah became prideful and was struck with leprosy when he attempted to enter the temple and burn incense. Jotham was also a good king, although he was unable to turn the people away from their corruption. Ahaz was an evil king sacrificed his children to the false gods that he worshipped. As we read about these kings, consider the consequences of their choices, not only for themselves, but also for those that they rule over.
