Context: Chapter 20 deals with warfare and how to determine which men are to go into battle. Moses also reminds the Israelites, again, that they are not to leave their enemies alive in the lands that the Lord had given them. Chapter 21 instructs the Israelites on how to handle an unsolved murder, marriage of captive women, and a rebellious son. Compare this instruction to the parable of the prodigal son told by Jesus. Are you not thankful we have God’s grace today instead of His law? Moses addresses several laws related to their domestic lives. Although we are not held to these laws today, it is important to consider the Lord’s reason behind such laws.
