Context: The author of the first psalm in today’s reading is unknown. It reflects upon the time when Israel was held in captivity and of the despair the people felt at being away from Jerusalem where they worshipped their Lord. The remaining two psalms were written by David. Psalm 138 is a psalm of praise. How David loved to praise the Lord! Psalm 139 is also a psalm of praise. David acknowledges God’s knowledge, power, and presence. God is omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (present everywhere), and omnipotent (all powerful). What a great God we have!
