Author: Malachi, a prophet

Date: uncertain, possibly during the time of rebuilding Jerusalem

Context: Malachi is the final book of the Old Testament (although some books may have been written later).  He is also the final prophet recorded until John the Baptist in the New Testament.  In his book, priests are exhorted to not dishonor the Lord (1:2-2:9), Judah is exhorted to remain faithful to the Lord (2:10-3:6), and Judah is also exhorted to return and remember the Lord (3:7-4:6).

World History: Malachi means “my messenger” in Hebrew, which has led some scholars to believe that the name Malachi is a pseudonym.
