Context: Paul continues with his theme of giving and the Corinthians excitement the previous year, wanting them to fulfill their promise. He also describes the benefits of giving cheerfully, with a glad heart, which includes having out needs met - but not necessarily our desire or wants! Paul then addresses some of the claims made about him by the false apostles who have come to Corinth. They claimed that Paul is two faced, acting bold when apart and timid when with the Corinthians. Paul explains that he wants his time with the Corinthians to be joyful, which is why he is so hard on them when he is away from them. Paul criticizes those who have come and spoke against him, saying they have become legends in their own minds, without validation, and taking credit for the works of others, such as Paul's work with the Corinthians.
