Context: The first two psalms of today's reading were written by David. Psalm 69, like many psalms, has more than one meaning. It applies to author and his experience. It also describes the life of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is the second most quoted psalm in the New Testament. It foretells the difficult and trying times experienced by Jesus as He grew up. In this psalm, we can glimpse the suffering Jesus experienced before beginning His ministry. Psalm 70 is an urgent and desperate cry for help to the Lord. Have we not all experienced this? Psalm 70 is also identical to the last five verses of Psalm 40, yet it was separated and again inserted here. It is a reminder. Psalm 71 was obviously written by an elderly person. It is a psalm for the elderly. It is a reminder that you are on this earth for a purpose until the day you die. Do not give up on the Lord's work.
