Commentary: David becomes king over all Israel and conquers Jerusalem. He also defeats the Philistines. With Israel no longer wandering, David brings the Ark of Covenant to outside of Jerusalem. David is criticized by his wife for setting aside his royal robes and dancing before the Lord. David reminds her that we are not to be embarrassed for honoring the Lord. David wanted to build a permanent home for the ark and sought out Nathan, a prophet. David is informed that he will not be the one to build the ark’s home, but instead it will be his son. As king, the Lord was with David and he had many victories over his enemies. David also remembered the kindness showed to him by Jonathan and sought a way to repay that debt.
Focus Verses: 6:20-22 Have you ever been mocked, laughed at, or criticized for doing something pleasing to the Lord? How did you react? How should you have reacted? Do you consider other people’s thoughts or reactions before you doing what is pleasing to the Lord?
