Commentary: God’s long list of laws for the Israelites were far from arbitrary. Many of the laws given in Leviticus were for the physical health of the Israelites, some of which science has come to recognize as necessary to staying healthy. But the Israelites also need to be spiritually clean, just as churches today need to be. The Nazarite vow was voluntary and could be for a set period of time. A vow between yourself and the Lord is greater than a written contract and must be taken seriously and honored. Chapter 7, the second longest chapter in the Bible, records the gifts given at the dedication of the Tabernacle.
Focus Verses: 6:1-12 Why are vows to the Lord so important? What should be done before making such a vow?
