Christmas Day 2016 - Sunday, December 25, 2016
The Bible verse for today is possibly the most well know scripture verse because it is revered by both, the Christian and the Jew, as it is Jewish and Christian scripture. Isaiah 9:6:
For to us a Child shall be born, to us a Son shall be given;
And the government shall be upon His shoulder,
And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6, AMP)
Isaiah 9:6 prophesied the coming of the Christ Child 700 plus years before it happened! The verse is a short hand description of who our Savior is. Unfortunately, scriptural interpretation is often directed by human desire and/or need rather than taken with it’s true character - the character of “The Word” (John 1:1). Our Jewish friends at the time of the birth of Christ were a people without a homeland that wasn’t occupied by a foreign invader - The Romans at the time of Christ’s birth. Prior to Christ’s birth most of Israel’s history is dominated by war or captivity. To this day Israel is a nation on tenuous ground under a constant shadow of war with its Middle Eastern neighbors.
The Jews of Christ’s time on earth were looking for an earthly king, failing to recognize that Christ was born to free people from the bondage of sin, Jew and Gentile alike, provided they surrender rulership of their life to Him. Christ came to assist us in Spiritual warfare. He came to provide us with victory over Lucifer the fallen Angel know commonly as Satan or the Devil. Lucifer wants your soul committed to eternal damnation with his. Christ wants your soul committed to an eternity of peace and joy, (peace and joy which cannot be described by the words of a mere mortal), with Him in Heaven.
Is Christ the Spiritual King of your life?
We close by inviting you to join us in a year long Bible reading program starting on January 1, 2017.
Blessed Christmas to you from The Forgiveness Foundation Christian Ministries!
