The Scripture reading for today is 2 Peter 3:9-10. Verse 9 is a commonly cited part of this scripture; however verse 10 not so. Verse 9 relates to God’s time table. Verse 10 relates to mankind’s timetable.
The Lord does not delay [as though He were unable to act] and is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is [extraordinarily] patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief and the heavens will vanish with a [mighty and thunderous] roar, and the [material] elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. (2 Peter 3:9-10, AMP)
Are you surprised that Christ would tarry waiting for sinners to repent and turn to Him for salvation from their sin? It is impossible to imagine what Christ is going through watching His creation turn their backs on Him to pursue an affair with the “Tempter” - Lucifer. A moments fleeting pleasure to risk everlasting peace and security. Psalm 24:1 tells us that the world and all in the world are Christ’s. That’s right you are his possession; however, Christ grants you freedom, free will, to reject Him. It is your choice; however, each choice you make carries with it its own set of consequences. If you chose the fleeting pleasure of sin the consequence is eternal death. Romans 6:23 tells us that sin’s penalty is death and that God’s gift to us is eternal life through Jesus Christ.
In closing we encourage you to repent of the sin in your life and seek God and His understanding in all that you do. One day Christ will tarry no longer and He will return for those who have chosen to repent and follow Him. It is your choice.
