December 31, 2016: Daily Bible Reading Commentary is John 3:16
Today’s Bible passage, John 3:16, is a very common and well-known verse. Many of you probably memorized this verse as a child, but this verse holds special meaning for this time of year.
“For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:16, AMP)
We just celebrated the birth of God’s one and only begotten Son. We all know the story of what happened to this precious, unique child. Do you ever stop to ponder the magnitude of God’s love for humankind? It is larger than we can possibly imagine! Christ’s birth is a demonstration of that love!
Christ’s birth marked a change in the world, even if few recognized it at the time. We are now at another time of change; the start of a new year! As we transition from one year to the next, it is common to make resolutions - something about yourself that you will change in the upcoming year. Have you ever made a spiritual resolution? This is the year! Even if you have previously, make another one! Is there anything more important that your spiritual growth and relationship with Christ? Study! Learn! Come to understand the magnitude of God’s love for you and why He granted you salvation!
