Commentary: Paul gives a fairly standard greeting to the Roman church before plunging into his message. Paul is writing approximately 30 years after the ascension of Jesus Christ and tension has risen between Jewish Christians and Gentiles and secular Romans. Paul warns followers of Christ against actions and living a lifestyle that goes against the Lord. The world may live that life, but we know the truth and should live accordingly. We should, however be careful in our judgement of others. We must be aware of our own unrighteous shortcomings. Following the law will not guarantee our salvation. The Lord examines our hearts.
Focus Verses:1:15-17 Who can receive salvation? How? Why is the Gospel important? What does Paul say about the Gospel? How can/do you apply that to your own life?
