Commentary: Chapters 7 and 8 take place during the reign of King Ahaz, while Judah was under attack. Ahaz did not want to rely on the Lord’s power, believing instead that his power was sufficient. Chapter 9 begins with a promise of hope before, once again, warning against taking pride in past achievements. Chapter 11 speaks go the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ. Again, it is a message of hope: God has a plan and will be victorious.
Focus Verses: 11:3-9 This has not yet come to pass. Just as Isaiah was giving a message of hope to the Israelites, so too was he giving a message of hope to us. What hope do we have? To what do we have to look forward? Why is it important to have hope? What brings you hope?
