Commentary: Saul has been rejected as King of Israel by the Lord and David has been anointed to take Saul’s place, however the transfer of power is anything but peaceful. David is the most unexpected successor, so unimportant that he was not even summoned to the meeting with Samuel!
Focus Verses: 18:6-16 Saul shows what happens when the Lord is no longer with a person, similar to how a person who has rejected the Lord may behave today. What happens? Has there ever been a time in your life when you rejected the Lord? What happened? How did you return? We should not run or hide from our failures, but learn and grow from them.
