Commentary: David becomes king over all Israel and conquers Jerusalem. He also defeats the Philistines. With Israel no longer wandering, David brings the Ark of Covenant to outside of Jerusalem. David is criticized by his wife for setting aside his royal robes and dancing before the Lord. David reminds her that we are not to be embarrassed for honoring the Lord. David wanted to build a permanent home for the ark and sought out Nathan, a prophet. David is informed that he will not be the one to build the ark’s home, but instead it will be his son. As king, the Lord was with David and he had many victories over his enemies. David also remembered the kindness showed to him by Jonathan and sought a way to repay that debt.
Focus Verses: 9:1-8 Despite all David endured at the hands of Saul, David remembered his friendship with Jonathan and wanted to honor his friend in some way. Are you as forgiving as David? Is there someone in your life you need to forgive?
