Anthony Bartee To Be Executed May 2nd in Texas

Anthony Bartee is scheduled to be executed on May 2, 2012 in Huntsville, Texas. Fifty-four-year-old Bartee is convicted of murdering 37-year-old David Cook on August 16, 1996. David was stabbed in the back, had his throat cut, and had two gunshot wounds in the back of his head. Bartee stole David’s cherry red Harley Davidson motorcycle and several credit cards. Prior to the murder/robbery, Bartee attempted to solicit acquaintances into helping him with the murder; all refused. David was found the following day, after he failed to report to work.

This was not Anthony’s first legal trouble. Prior to committing this crime, Anthony served nearly 12 years for two rape convictions. Anthony was out on parole when he murdered David. Anthony denies having a part in the murder, claiming he was working on Cook’s motorcycle, and fled when he heard gunshots.

Anthony was originally scheduled to be executed on February 28, 2012, but received a stay of execution to allow for addition DNA testing. As of this writing, the DNA testing has not been completed or analyzed.

Please pray for peace for David’s family. Please pray for wisdom for the Governor of Texas, as he must decide if the execution should proceed without the DNA evidence examined. Anthony has not written to The Forgiveness Foundation, therefore we do not know if he has accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Please pray that he will come to have a personal relationship with Jesus, if he does not already.
