Day 002: Journey Through the Bible in a Year
Focus Verses for Today: Genesis 3:6-13

Before reading Genesis 1-3, pray for an understanding of today’s reading. Then read Genesis 1-3. Let’s journey!

GenesisCommentary:  Genesis, the first book of the Jewish Torah and of the Christian Old Testament, was written by Moses as revealed by God. The first three chapters cover God’s creation of light and darkness, sky and land and water, trees and plants, sun and moon, birds and fish and all animals, and man; humankind – Adam and Eve. It also covers the fall of Adam and Eve.  We cannot create something from nothing, however God can, and did! Adam and Eve were given free will. We do not know how long Adam and Eve resided in the Garden before they chose to follow the serpent’s (Satan) advice and disobey God.  This resulted in the loss of the perfect world that surrounded them and by choosing to disobey God, Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden. After their expulsion, sin, pain, and suffering entered the world.

Focus Verses: 3:6-13 Adam and Eve only realized they were naked and became ashamed because they ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Look at advertising, television shows, movies – the amount of clothing being worn is less and less. Nudity is described as tastefully done, en vogue. Yet Adam and Eve were ashamed of their nudity. Have we lost the knowledge of good and evil? Have we failed to pass it on?
