Day 009: Journey Through the Bible in a Year
Focus Verses for Today: Genesis 6:5-8

Before reading Genesis 4-7, pray for understanding of today’s reading. Read Genesis 4-7. Let’s journey!

GenesisCommentary: Adam and Eve introduced sin into the world, while their children, Cain and Able, introduced murder. As sin advances and spreads, we become further and further from God as evidenced by Cain, then his descendants. The first recorded murder in history is when Cain killed Able because Abel’s sacrifice was more pleasing to God. We have our first genealogy, that of Adam. Note that Cain is not included, as his genealogy is listed separately. Sexual immorality is rampant and God’s created earth is overrun by violence. God’s wrath builds as He prepares to destroy all breathing life upon the earth. God shares His plan to put an end to all people on the earth, except Noah and his family. The flood, that destroyed all living things that inhabited the dry lands, began.

Focus Verses: Genesis 6:5-8 Corrupt rulers will corrupt those they rule. Does this hold true today? How? Is the Lord grieved at our behavior today as He was grieved during the time of Noah? What lessons can we learn from the past?
