Day 037: Journey Through the Bible in a Year
Focus Verses for Today: Genesis 20:1-17

Before we begin our journey today pray for God’s understanding of Genesis 20-23. Read Genesis 20-23. Pray and reflect on what is happening.

GenesisCommentary: We see a repeat of Abraham and Sarah lying to a foreign king. God, however, protects them, so that there can be no doubt as to the father of Sarah’s eventual child, Isaac. We also see God’s protection of Hagar and her son Ishmael, who would go on to father a nation. Abraham’s near-sacrifice of Isaac shows his tremendous faith in the Lord. His tremendous faith was rewarded and God’s promise to Abraham would be fulfilled through Isaac. Abraham’s faith is also demonstrated through his lack of land. Abraham was finally content to wait on God’s timing, for the land that God had promised him. Sarah dies at Kiriath Arba (Hebron). Abraham purchases a burial plot from Ephron to bury her. Abraham, Issac, Rebekah, Leah, and Jacob were also buried there.
