Day 058: Journey Through the Bible in One Year
Focus Verses for Today: Genesis 35:2-5
Take a few minutes to ask God, in prayer, to give you an understanding of Genesis 32-35. While you are in prayer, you may want to thank God for all the blessings He has bestowed upon you. Read Genesis 32-35. Let our journey begin!
Commentary: Jacob and Esau are finally reunited, but with caution. Jacob does not know how Esau is going to react to seeing him once again, so Jacob attempts to soften up Esau with gifts. What do all of Jacob’s plans lack? Direction from the Lord! Jacob wrestles with the Lord before finally surrendering. Surrendering does not cause an instant transformation within Jacob, rather a slow change takes place, just as it can be within us. Jacob has a second son with his wife Rachel. In the final chapter, we see that Jacob’s children have inherited their father’s deceitful nature. Jacob and Esau again reunited to bury their father, Issac.
Focus Verses: Genesis 35:2-5 – Jacob changed much throughout his life. It took a long while, but he eventually learned to trust and rely on the Lord alone. Look back on your life five, ten, twenty years ago. How has the Lord worked change in your life? What has been the result of that change?
