Day 063: Journey Through the Bible in One Year
Focus Verses for Today: Matthew 23:13-32
Take a few moments to seek the Lord’s guidance for our journey through Matthew 23-25. We have plenty of time, so take that thing that’s on your mind to the Lord. Sure you’ll be interested in His direction on it. Now, it’s time, to journey through Matthew 23-25!
Commentary: Jesus condemns the Pharisees for their hypocrisy, pronouncing seven woes (holy curses) against them. Jesus did not hold back on warning His audience at the Temple that the teachers of the law and the Pharisees were hypocrites, and not be followed or admired for anything other than their teachings concerning the law of Moses. After addressing the Pharisees, Jesus warns the people: they must always be prepared for Christ’s coming and return. Jesus’ return will not be a secret event. All will see Him coming! We are to take our responsibilities and do them to the best of our ability, which is pleasing to the Lord. God will never give us more than that of which we are capable.
Focus Verses: Matthew 23:13-32 – In this context, what is the meaning of “woe?” What were the seven woes addressed against the Pharisees? What actions did Jesus observe (or know of) that led to these woes? Which woe(s) would be addressed to you?
