Day 105: Journey Through the Bible in a Year
Focus Verses for Today: Mark 10:35
Take some time to ask God for His understanding of Jesus’ journey, as we journey with Him in Mark 9-10. Read Mark 9-10. Let’s journey!
Commentary: What is the significance of Moses and Elijah as Jesus’ transfiguration? They represent the coming together of the Law (Moses) and the Prophets (Elijah). The disciples struggled to comprehend a dying, suffering Messiah, because they believed, like most Jews, that the Messiah would come as a victorious Earthly conquer. They were focused on physical salvation, not spiritual. Although Mark may not have written the occurring events in chronological order, many of Jesus’ teachings are familiar. The Pharisees attempted to decrease Jesus’ appeal by asking Him about divorce, a topic that was responsible for the death of John the Baptist. Divorce was never part of God’s plan but was permitted to curb behavior that was already present. Service is at the heart of Jesus’ ministry and should be at the heart of our ministry today.
