Day 171: Journey Through the Bible in a Year
Focus Verses for Today: 1 Kings 18:17-19
Ask God to give you His understanding of 1 Kings 14-18. Read 1 Kings 14-18. Let’s journey!
Commentary: With the nation of Israel now divided into Israel to the north and Judah to the south, kings come and go rather frequently. Israel had no good kings, that is kings who followed the Lord. King Ahab, along with his wife Jezebel, was the worst of the kings of Israel. The prophet Elijah appears suddenly in chapter 17, telling the king that there would be no rain until Elijah asks for it – and Elijah was leaving town! Elijah had great faith and relied upon the Lord to provide for him and helped him help others. Elijah finally returns to face off against Baal’s prophets – all 450 of them!
Focus Verses: 1 Kings 18:17-19 – Elijah is accused by the government of stirring up trouble because he follows the Lord and refuses to compromise. Does this sound familiar today? How can this chapter relate to your life? What can you take away from this chapter?
