Day 185: Journey Through the Bible in a Year
Focus Verses for Today: 2 Kings 5:11-12

Ask God for His understanding of 2 Kings 1-5. Read 2 Kings 1-5. Let’s journey!

KingsCommentary: 1 and 2 Kings were originally one book, therefore it makes sense that 2 Kings picks up right where 1 Kings left off. Today’s reading covers King Ahaziah, the son of Jezebel, as well as the works of Elijah and Elisha. Elijah, when sent for by the king, demands that he be treated with the respect he deserves. After Elijah is taken by the Lord, Elisha receives a double portion of his spirit, which allowed Elisha to perform greater miracles. Naaman is a great man beset with leprosy who turns to Elisha to heal him. Naaman believed that due to his rank, Elisha should tend to him and is outraged when Elisha does not share that view. Only through Naaman’s willingness to submit to humiliation is he healed.

Focus Verses: 2 Kings 5:11-12 – Naaman’s behavior, actions, and thoughts are similar to many Christians today. How? What can we learn from his behavior? What does his story tell us about serving the Lord?
