Day 212: Journey Through the Bible in a Year
Focus Verses for Today: Leviticus 24:1-4
Ask God for His understanding of Leviticus 22-24. Read Leviticus 22-24. Let’s journey!
Commentary: Chapter 22 continues giving specific instructions to priests. Chapter 23 focuses on all the people of Israel, describing the seven feasts ordained by the Lord and the importance of the Sabbath. The feasts, and others not listed here, are described in more detail in other parts of the Scriptures. The feasts are designed to encourage worship and fellowship, but with a focus on the Lord God. Each feast also has a prophetic element attached to it: Passover – crucifixion and death of Christ; Unleavened Bread – the fellowship we have with Christ because of His death; Firstfruits – the resurrection of Christ; Feast of Weeks/Pentecost – beginning of the church; Feast of Trumpets/Rosh Hashanah – Israel will be brought back into the land; Day of Atonement – the work of Christ upon the cross; and the Feast of Tabernacles – Israel is one again in the land (future).
In chapter 24, the High Priest, Aaron, is charged to keep the lamps burning, while the people were charged with supplying the oil. We cannot please two masters. The Lord instructs that anyone who blasphemes Him is to be put to death. This is taught by example.
Focus Verses: Leviticus 24:1-4 – Every person had a responsibility to keep the lamps burning. What is our role today in keeping the light of Christ shining? What is your role? How are you fulfilling that role?
