Day 260: Journey Through the Bible in a Year
Focus Verses for Today: Philemon 1:15-16

Take a moment and pray, asking for understanding of today’s reading. Read Philemon 1. Let’s journey!

PhilemonCommentary: This personal letter was written while Paul was in prison. During his imprisonment, he met a runaway slave, Onesimus. Onesimus eventually turned his life over to Christ and helped Paul with his ministry. As evident by Paul’s writing, the two had grown very close, much like father and son. Paul mourned sending Onesimus away, however, Onesimus had to atone for his past sins; namely, running away from his master. Philemon, as Onesimus’ owner, would have been well within his right to sell, torture, or even execute Onesimus for his crime. Paul pleads with Philemon to pardon Onesimus and accept him as a brother in Christ.

Focus Verses: Philemon 1:15-16 We don’t know the outcome of this story but is there a similar story in your life? Is there a sin for which you must atone? Is there someone who you need to forgive?
