Commentary: Amos recognizes that Israel has rejected and turned away from the Lord, for which they will be punished most severely. Amos reminds his listeners that Israel was once a leading nation, blessed by the Lord, but they have since fallen into despair and will soon be destroyed. His book ends with a message of hope: Israel will one day be restored to its full glory!
