Jeffrey Motts Executed in South Carolina

Jeffrey MottsThe state of South Carolina carried out the execution of Jeffrey Motts on May 6, 2011. Jeffrey was pronounced dead at 6:17 pm local time.  He was executed at the Brood River Capital Punishment Facility at the Brood River Correctional Institute in Columbia, South Carolina. Jeffrey was 36 years of age. He was executed for the murder of his cell-mate, 26-year-old Charles “Chuck” Martin.  Jeffrey killed Charles on December 5, 2005, at the Perry Correctional Institution in Pelzer, South Carolina. The two men had previously argued and had asked to be separated. Jeffrey spent the last three years of his life on South Carolina’s death row.

At the time of the murder, Jeffrey was serving two life sentences for the 1995 robbery and double murder of 79-year-old Clyde Camby and Jeffrey’s 73-year-old great-aunt-Etta Osteen. Jeffrey allegedly robbed the couple to obtain money to buy crack. Jeffrey had asked to be sentenced to death and voluntarily abandoned all of his appeals, allowing his execution to proceed.
