Day 269: Journey Through the Bible in a Year
Focus Verses for Today: 2 Chronicles 10:3-15

Take a moment and pray, asking for understanding of today’s reading. Read 2 Chronicles 6-10. Let’s journey!

1 and 2 ChroniclesCommentary: Following the completion of the Temple, the Ark of the Covenant was brought in and its poles were removed, as it would not be moved anymore. Solomon offers praise and a sacrifice during the dedication of the Temple to the Lord. The Lord warns what will happen if the Israelites were to turn away from worshipping the Lord. This warning is followed by a description of several events during Solomon’s rule, many of which went against the instructions of the Lord. Solomon’s famed wisdom had spread far and wide, with kings and queens from far-off lands spending months traveling over the desert to meet with him. After Solomon’s death, Rehoboam becomes king, which leads to the division of Israel and Judah. Rehoboam is an unwise king, as evident by his recorded decisions. Rehoboam also fails to seek the Lord’s guidance.
