Day 303: Journey Through the Bible in a Year
Focus Verses for Today: Deuteronomy 8:11-14a
Before reading Deuteronomy 7-9, pray for understanding of today’s reading. Read Deuteronomy 7-9. Let’s journey!
Commentary: The first two chapters of today’s reading look at the possible futures for Israel. And the Israelites’ future turned out exactly as Moses foretold! God’s commands were given to the Israelites out of love – He wanted to spare them the pain and suffering that would come from joining other nations and abandoning Him. The Lord had rescued the Israelites from the Egyptians after they cried out to Him, and provided for them while there were in the desert. The Lord cares for His people, but if they abandon Him, they will suffer. Unlike when the Israelites had previously turned from the Lord, Moses would not be in the Promised Land to intervene on their behalf.
Focus Verses: Deuteronomy 8:11-14a – Has this not come to pass for us today? We are blessed with abundant food, good homes, and luxury that could not have been dreamed of by the Israelites, yet many have forgotten the Lord and scorn Him. Have you forgotten the Lord? Is He the prominent force in your life?
