Focus Verses for Today: Deuteronomy 17:14-20

Before reading Deuteronomy 16-19, pray for understanding of today’s reading. Read Deuteronomy 16-19. Let’s journey!

DeuteronomyCommentary: Moses speaks of the three main feasts the Israelites were to celebrate. The feasts were to remind the Israelites of all the Lord has done for them and of the difficulties they have experienced. The Lord also provided instructions for judges, kings, priests, and prophets. The Israelites were to worship the Lord God and no other. They were to be wary of false prophets. False prophets may predict some true events, but a true prophet will always be accurate, in all predictions. Cities of refuge were for accidental killings, and, in order for a person to be convicted of a crime, there must be at least two witnesses. This was to prevent false accusations.

Focus Verses: Deuteronomy 17:14-20 – Israel had no king, nor did the Lord wish for a king over His people, yet he provided instructions for kings. Why? What does this reveal about the Lord? You are likely not a king, so how do these instructions apply to you?
