Commentary: John warns his readers against false spirits. What exactly he meant by false spirits is up for debate, however, his larger theme of discerning the truth does not hinge upon that definition. Anyone, anything, any spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord is false! We must always be vigilant! We are to love each other as Christ loves us. Think of how many times the Lord has forgiven you? Can you even count them all? That is how we are to love.

Focus Verses: 1 Johne 4:7-12 – How do you show love for God? For your family? For your friends? For strangers? We are to show love for all because God loves all! How do you show love?
