Larry Hatten was scheduled to be executed at 6 pm CDT, on October 15, 2013, at the Walls Unit of the Huntsville State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas.  Larry's execution has been stayed.  Forty-year-old Larry is convicted of killing 5-year-old Isaac Jackson in an apartment in Corpus Christi, Texas, on September 19, 1995.  For the past 18 years, Larry has been on Texas’ death row.

Larry's execution was stayed by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in order to resolve a 1997 filing that was never decided.  Larry appeared to have been prepared for his execution, as he had requested that no appeals be filed to stop his execution.  Larry stay will last for at least six months to allow for the filing issue to be resolved.

During the early morning of September 19, 1995, Larry Hatten broke into the apartment of Isaac Robinson, a rival drug dealer, in Corpus Christi, Texas.  After entering the apartment, Hatten went to the bedroom, broke down the door and began firing his handgun.  Hatten later admitted that he intended to kill Robinson in retaliation for Robinson setting fire to some cars, which was the latest move in a series of escalating quarrels among local drug dealers.

Robinson was not at the apartment, but Robinson’s girlfriend, Tabitha Thompson and the couple’s 5-year-old son, Isaac Jackson were sleeping in the bedroom.  Tabitha was shot four times, while Isaac was shot once.  Hatten left the bedroom and went into the kitchen.  Hatten fled the apartment when Tabitha walked out of the bedroom.  Tabitha although severely wounded, survived her injuries; Isaac did not survive.

Hatten was arrested later that day after police saw him driving around, covered in blood.  Hatten was convicted and given the death sentence in February of 1996.

Larry Hatten was scheduled to be executed on October 16, 2013, however that execution date was withdrawn over concerns of Larry mental competency.  Earlier this year, Larry wrote a letter to a judge, asking that his appeals be stopped and his execution be allowed to proceed.  Following a mental evaluation, Larry’s execution was scheduled for October 15, 2014.

Please pray for peace and healing for the family of Isaac Jackson.  Please pray for peace for the family of Larry Hatten.  Please pray that Larry may come to have peace through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, if he has not already found one.
