READ THE BIBLE IN A YEAR:  At the beginning of this year, The Forgiveness Foundation embarked on the mission of encouraging people throughout the world to read the Bible, the entire Bible, over the course of this year. Why? The reason is simply to allow believers to have a full relationship with their God and to allow the Gospel to work on non-believers.

The believer often limits his or her faith by having an incomplete understanding of our Lord and Savior because we return to the same Bible passages again and again. Typically, the believer returns to verses that comfort them. This is good, because God wants us to have comfort in our relationship with Him. The failure for the believer to explore and seek an understanding of the entire Bible, is that it stunts our growth in the Lord resulting, in the believer having an incomplete understanding of our Lord and Savior. The challenge for the believer is to grow in relationship with the Lord and not rest in the comfort zone that the believer may find in his or her faith. As believers, we need to seek those areas of God’s word that challenge us to worship God more fully and live a life more pleasing to our Lord and Savior. By doing this our relationship with Him will deepen and our faith and understanding of Him will grow.

The non-believer’s challenge is different; it is the challenge to have them accept the truth that comes from the Gospel. As believers we are told to share the Gospel with those who do not believe. We are not commanded to convince or debate; we are commanded to share and spread the Gospel. The word of God is not threatening – it is forgiving and leading. Our mission to the non-believer is to encourage them to read the Bible so they may have an opportunity to get to know God and to allow the Holy Spirit to work in the life of the non-believer. What greater gift can we participate in sharing with another than the gift of Jesus the Christ?

I encourage you to join the hundreds of others who are participating from all around the world and read the Bible daily. You may follow along with our read the Bible in a year program by going to our website,, checking the daily reading section or you can download the entire 52 week program at the daily reading section of our website. You decide which is best for you and get to know God better. I encourage you to pray for those who are participating and for God to lead others to His Word.

I close with this passage of scripture, Romans 10:14, “How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” (ESV)
