17th World Day Against the Death Penalty

October 10, 2019, is the 17th World Day Against the Death Penalty.  The goal of World Day Against the Death Penalty is to raise awareness about the death penalty and advocate against the death penalty.  Each year, the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty focuses on a different location or topic about which to raise awareness.  This year, they are focusing on raising awareness about the children of death row inmates, calling them the “unseen victims” of capital punishment.

Research has shown that children who have parents imprisoned adversely affect their development, as their living conditions often deteriorate and their relationships with others are affected. Having a parent incarcerated brings great change into a child’s life. Children of death row inmates, also have additional stresses with which they must contend, leading to psychological, emotional, and other trauma, which can affect all aspects of their life, for the rest of their life. Sadly, specific help and support for these children is often not given.

On this World Day Against the Death Penalty, we, at The Forgiveness Foundation Christian Ministries, ask that you remember children of death row inmates, the “unseen victims.” Pray for them. Pray that they receive the care they need and that they may find comfort in the Lord. We also ask that you remember all the individuals on death row in your prayers.  Please pray that if they are not guilty of the crime(s) for which they have been convicted, their innocence will be revealed.  Please pray that all who are on death row may come to find peace through personal relationship with Jesus Christ, if they have not already.
