Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.  (Luke 11:23, NIV)

LUKE 11-12

Focus Verse For Today: Luke 11:23

Our journey through Luke 11-12 continues with Jesus teaching and debating Pharisees and teachers of the law.

Ask the Lord for His understanding of Luke 11-12. Read Luke 11-12. Let’s journey!

Luke 11 through 12, begins with the Apostles asking Jesus to teach them to pray. The simple, yet comprehensive prayer, Jesus taught them, is commonly referred to as the Lord’s prayer. Jesus is accused of casting out demons though Beelzebub Jesus denies such non-sense. Jesus tells the crowds that are following after Him that their wickedness exceeds the people Nineveh. Jesus warns that the eye is the lamp of the body. Jesus warns the Pharisees and experts in law that that they merely give lip service to the law. Jesus tells them that their outward appearance may appear pure, however, within themselves, they are corrupt. Jesus continues teaching that we must carefully guard against the corruption of the Pharisees by being obedient to God’s word and trusting God fully in all that we do. (Luke 1:1-2:59)

Our focus verse today:

Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.   (Luke 11:23, NIV)

Jesus’ words go straight to the heart of our eternity. Those who chose not to believe in Jesus repenting of sinful living are against Him. If we choose to live a life laden with sin we cannot and are not witnesses for Jesus’ saving grace. In fact we encourage, possibly facilitate, others to follow sin filled lifestyles, leading them away from Jesus into the arms of Satan. No one on earth can straddle the fence. Jesus’ words can be simply paraphrased to this: If you are not totally for Jesus, you are totally against Him. Where do you stand? With Jesus or without Jesus? It’s an eternal question.
