Troy Anthony Davis was executed by the state of Georgia on September 21, 2011. Troy was pronounced dead at 11:08 pm EDT, inside the execution chamber at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison, in Jackson, Georgia. Troy was 42 years of age. He was executed for the murder of 27-year-old Officer Mark Allen MacPhail on August 19, 1989, in Savannah, Georgia. Troy spent the last 20 years of his life on Georgia’s death row.

Troy parents divorced when he was young. He dropped out of high school in the 11th grade. Troy previously worked as a drill technician, although he had poor attendance. He also signed up for the United State Marine Corps. Troy was also convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and shooting another individual.

Troy had insisted that he was innocent of the crime for which he was convicted and executed. Bullet casing, identical to ones used by Troy were found at the crime scene. Although several eye witnesses placed Troy at the crime scene, many later recanted their statements, causing many to believe that Troy was innocent of the crime.

Please pray for peace and healing for the family of Mark MacPhail and all who have been affected by Troy’s crimes. Please pray for the family of Troy Davis.
