Mark Stroman, Texas

May 10, 2011

Mark Anthony Stroman was executed by the state of Texas on July 20, 2011. Mark was pronounced dead at 8:53 pm CDT, inside the Walls Unit execution chamber at the Huntsville State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. Mark was 41 years of age. He was executed for the murder of 49-year-old Vasudev Patel on October 4, 2001, in Mesquite, Texas. The murder was in response to the September 11, 2001, terror attacks where he lost his sister. This was not Mark’s first murder in retaliation for the terrorist attacks. On September 15, 2001, Mark killed Waqar Hasan, and on September 21, 2001, Mark killed Raisuddin Bhuiuian, both of whom were also of Middle Eastern descent. Mark spent the last 9 years of his life on Texas’ death row.

Mark admitted that he was a member of the Aryan Brotherhood. Mark had an extensive criminal history, beginning at the age of 12, and including convictions for burglary, robbery, theft, and credit card abuse. Mark served at least two prison terms. Mark dropped out of school after the eighth grade. Prior to his arrest he worked as a baker and laborer.

Please pray for peace and healing for the families of Vasudev Patel, Waqar Hasan, Raisuddin Bhuiuian, and anyone else who may have been harmed by his crimes. Please pray for the family of Mark. As part of his final words, Mark expressed his faith in Jesus Christ.
