Updated: Monday, March 9, 2020

Carlos Trevino was scheduled to be executed at 6 pm local time, on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at the Walls Unit of the Huntsville State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas.  His execution has been rescheduled to Wednesday, June 3, 2020.  Forty-five-year-old Carlos is convicted of the murder of 15-year-old Linda Salinas in a park in San Antonio, Texas on June 9, 1996. Carlos has spent the last 21 years on death row in Texas.

Carlos was born in Texas. Carlos’ mother drank while she was pregnant with him, and continued drinking, along with using drugs, while he was a child. Carlos also alleges that his mother physically and emotionally abused him and that he received numerous head injuries as a child that went untreated. Carlos did not attend school regularly, did poorly in school, and dropped out of school after the ninth grade. He worked in construction prior to his arrest. Carlos was a known member of the Pisteleros street gang. He had previously been arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and was under mandatory supervision at the time of his arrest.

Carlos Trevino, Santos Cervantes, Bryan Apolinar, Sienido “Sam” Rey, and Juan Gonzales (Trevino’s cousin), were together on the evening of June 9, 1996. They had left a party together to go buy more beer. They persuaded Linda Salinas to get into the car, promising to take her to a fast food restaurant. Instead, the group drove to Espada Park.

Linda was raped by Cervantes, Apolinar, and Rey, while Trevino helped hold her down and encouraged the others. Trevino also tried to persuade Gonzales to rape Linda, but he refused and returned the car. Linda struggled to escape during the rape. Gonzales, who testified against the others, stated that he heard them discussing what to do with Linda, because they did not want any witnesses. When the others returned to Gonzales and the car, Trevino and Cervantes had blood on their shirts.

Gonzales also stated that he overheard Cervantes comment about Trevino snapping Linda’s neck. There was also comments made about a knife and how Trevino “learned to kill prison.” Trevino warned Gonzales not to say anything to the police.

Linda’s body was discovered the next day. She had been killed by two stab wounds in her neck.

Trevino was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death in August 1997. Santos Cervantes was also convicted of capital murder and has been sentenced to life in prison. Sienido Rey was convicted of murder and given a 50 year sentence. Bryan Apolinar was convicted of aggravated sexual assault and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Juan Gonzales was a juvenile at the time of the murder and never charged.

Carlos Trevino's execution has been rescheduled due to multiple paperwork delays and errors, such as not sending the the death warrant immediately to the defense attorneys.

Pray for peace and heeling for the family of Linda. Pray for strength for the family of Carlos Trevino. Pray that if Carlos is innocent, lacks the competency to be executed, or should not be executed for any other reason, that evidence will be provided prior to his arrest. Pray that Carlos may come to find peace through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, if he has not already.
