May 8, 2018: Daily Bible Reading Commentary for 2 Samuel 10-14

Commentary: While at war with the Ammonites, David remained in Jerusalem and committed his greatest sin: coveting and taking Bathsheba and murdering her husband.  David did not truly understand the gravity of his sin until confronted by Nathan the prophet.  David repented and was forgiven, but was still punished.  David’s son also committed the sin of lust and raped his half-sister.  David fails to intervene in the sins of his children and punish them or prevent further sins.  His failure as a father will lead to even more heartbreak.

Focus Verses:  12:1-14  Why did Nathan not directly accuse David at first?  What lesson can be learned from this passage?  How can you apply it to your life?
